Reclaiming Pumpkins from “The basic” and “Convenient”
Not to sound “basic,” but some days I do. It is the season of pumpkin.
Obesssing over pumpkins is an easy thing to do this time of year. Pumpkin has become a fall mainstay. I do not have to mention the names of companies because if you are a pumpkin lover you already know where to find them. I do, however, recommend finding local artisans, bakeries, and restaurants. These creators will be less convenient but you will find more interesting use of pumpkin. Remember slow food is good food.
These next few months of fall, October 22nd thru December 21, it is my goal to share some of my pumpkin obsession with you. I will be taking my time and enjoying the scenic way there. I am excited to share stores and anecdotes like;
Something that I value about nature, food, and the humans is the ability to prolong the life and use of food. Pumpkins naturally do this with their hard shells and only start to deteriorate when the hard shell has been pierced.
I also hope to share someways to prolong the prolonging.
Halloween is next week and I am excited to share my recipes for roasted pumpkins seeds and my process for canning pumpkin with you so the pumpkins on your porch do not go to waste!
